That’s definitely the problem (at least for me).

If you (at least successfully) supply Twitter credentials, the next time you restart the app, you will lose the icon.

So with this build (2946) you can chose between barcode scanning and automatically tweeting your consumption/notes. For me, I will probably choose the latter.

Hope this helps narrow down the problem.

That worked for me until I exited the app.

The next time I started the app, I lost the scanner icon.

I will try it with just my CT (and no Twitter credentials).

You’re right, Deborah — we’re scrambling a bit on the process side, and in fact have just done a major website/forum upgrade. I’ll be back in there shortly and making sure I keep up to date going forward.

That’s really odd, Craig — when on the Home or My Cellar screens, the search bar should extend to about 50 pixels from the right, and there should be a bar code icon there. Is your search bar extending all the way to the right, or is there a gap where the bar code button should be? Can you hit the settings page and scroll all the way down and see what the build number is?

What barcode icon?

All I see to the right of the search ellipse/bar is a “Cancel” button.

This is the case in both the “My Cellar” and “Home” screen.

With regard to apps that have help sections on-app, see, for example, SplashMoney, SplashId, Wine Guide (Wine Enthusiast), What’s On?, Amazon.com, Midomi, StarmapPro, Kindle for iPhone, Waze, Layar …

I’ve downloaded the 2.2 version but don’t see any barcode icon to the right of the search bar………what am I doing wrong?

Yep — we were down or unstable for probably an hour. Total Murphy’s law — just when we went to switch servers, Apple approved 2.2.

For barcode scanning, just tap the barcode icon to the right of the search bar. The screen you get will have instructions. It’s fairly unusual for iPhone apps to have user manuals, but if you point me to an app that you think does a good job with documentation, I’ll make sure we learn from it and improve our offering!
