Cor.kz 2.2 Pushed to Apple

by Brooks on November 18, 2009

I’m happy to announce that we’ve pushed version 2.2 of Cor.kz to the App Store.   Apple’s approval process is notoriously unpredictable, but barring an unexpected rejection, the app should appear for download/upgrade sometime in the next couple of weeks.  We’ve seen approvals as quickly as 24 hours and as slowly as 30 days, so there’s really no telling when it’ll appear.   But when it does, we think you’ll like it.

This version adds Occipital’s fantastic bar code technology, and it’s amazingly accurate and useful.  Not all wines have bar codes, of course, and many wineries re-use the same bar code for multiple vintages of a ine, so it’s not a panacea… but I’ve been surprised at how useful it’s been when using Cor.kz myself.

2.2 also does some general cleanup work, especially with the startup code.  Cor.kz should start more quickly and generally feel snappier.  The settings page has also been reworked to hopefully make it easier to use.

Was the cor.kz server down a little while today (Nov 30 ~3 pm PST)?

I could neither initialize my newly downloaded 2.2. app nor access the cor.kz for at least 15 minutes today.

Everything thing seems to be working now.

Can’t wait until I get home to try out the barcode scanner.

Of course, i would really know *how* to use the barcode scanner.

There is *no* use manual for the app – either on-app or on this site; so now help there.

Have gone through the whole 2.2. app and can’t see how/where to activate its use.

BTW, I;ve been using this app since the end of June so I’m not a noob.

Yep — we were down or unstable for probably an hour. Total Murphy’s law — just when we went to switch servers, Apple approved 2.2.

For barcode scanning, just tap the barcode icon to the right of the search bar. The screen you get will have instructions. It’s fairly unusual for iPhone apps to have user manuals, but if you point me to an app that you think does a good job with documentation, I’ll make sure we learn from it and improve our offering!

I’ve downloaded the 2.2 version but don’t see any barcode icon to the right of the search bar………what am I doing wrong?

Brooks,

You haven’t posted to the cor.kz forum since July. There are bug reports and feature requests that hand languished there with zero replies. It really doesn’t do your reputation any favours.

Hi Brooks,

What barcode icon?

All I see to the right of the search ellipse/bar is a “Cancel” button.

This is the case in both the “My Cellar” and “Home” screen.

With regard to apps that have help sections on-app, see, for example, SplashMoney, SplashId, Wine Guide (Wine Enthusiast), What’s On?, Amazon.com, Midomi, StarmapPro, Kindle for iPhone, Waze, Layar …

That’s really odd, Craig — when on the Home or My Cellar screens, the search bar should extend to about 50 pixels from the right, and there should be a bar code icon there. Is your search bar extending all the way to the right, or is there a gap where the bar code button should be? Can you hit the settings page and scroll all the way down and see what the build number is?

You’re right, Deborah — we’re scrambling a bit on the process side, and in fact have just done a major website/forum upgrade. I’ll be back in there shortly and making sure I keep up to date going forward.

Brooks,

My build number is 2.2.0 (2946). I have a 3GS running 3.1.2.

Clear all settings and the icon appears.

Ed Sadowski December 1, 2009 at 3:52 pm

Thanks Ingo.

That worked for me until I exited the app.

The next time I started the app, I lost the scanner icon.

I will try it with just my CT (and no Twitter credentials).

That’s definitely the problem (at least for me).

If you (at least successfully) supply Twitter credentials, the next time you restart the app, you will lose the icon.

So with this build (2946) you can chose between barcode scanning and automatically tweeting your consumption/notes. For me, I will probably choose the latter.

Hope this helps narrow down the problem.

Ed
